STOCK #: AC050625-01RS CULTURE: Ancient Chinese DATE: c. Eastern Han Dynasty, 25 A.D. - 220 A.D. MATERIAL(S): Terracotta (clay, ceramic) DIMENSIONS: 5.8" (147 mm) tall CONDITION: Wear and encrustations consistent with age. Intact in “as found” condition complete with some dirt in hollow. COMMENTS: This hollow Ancient Eastern Han Dynasty Terracotta Tomb Figure appears to depict a female form, likely a servant or attendant. She stands tall, in a refined pose with each hand tucked neatly away into the opposite sleeve of her long flowing robe. In the time when slavery was a societal norm in ancient China, living people were often buried with the dead as sacrifices. Fortunately, as time progressed, terracotta figures such as this one took the place of living sacrifices in tombs of the dead much as ushabtis were placed in the tombs of the ancient Egyptians. This is a wonderful opportunity to own an affordable, authentic Eastern Han Dynasty artifact. PROVENANCE: From an American dealer. Details will be provided to purchaser. *Prices in CAD. This item is Guaranteed Authentic. Please see our Sales Policy and AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEE for full details. |
