STOCK #: AC050705-02RS CULTURE: Ancient Chinese DATE: c. Warring States Period, 475 B.C. - 221 B.C.. MATERIAL(S): Bronze DIMENSIONS: 1.26" (32 mm) wide, 0.46” (11.68 mm) thick CONDITION: .Nice and intact. Some encrustations consistent with age. COMMENTS: This Ancient Warring States Decorative Bronze Strap Divider / Fitting features a series of incised concentric circles. The visible patina is nice and even. A professional bronze restorer could likely improve upon the overall presentation by carefully removing the encrustations from the surface. It is clear that this beautiful artifact is decorative in nature and was designed for something to pass through it. Though the exact use is as of yet unknown one might speculate as to what it may have been used as. One suggestion is that it is a decorative strap divider / guide worn by a horse. Alternately, this may have been worn by a person as a of “belt buckle” sorts. Finally it is also possible that this was part of a decorative element used in the home or a fitting for a piece of furniture. Regardless of its use in the past this gorgeous specimen of ancient Chinese bronze workmanship would look equally beautiful displayed on its own, as part of a decorative element or worn as a unique decoration.
