COMMENTS: The Mixtec inhabited small city-states in northern Oaxaca. They were renowned throughout Mesoamerica for their skilled craftspeople and artists. Their wares, including offering dishes like the one being offered, were eagerly traded or commissioned by other cultures including the Aztecs. It is interesting to note that these proud people were never conquered by the Aztecs and they put up a fierce and bloody resistance to Spanish rule; they were eventually defeated by the Spanish and their indigenous allies.

This offering dish is a lovely authentic example of the Mixtec artist’s craft that will make a nice addition to any collection at an affordable price.

PROVENANCE: From the private collection of a listed Canadian artist. Full provenance will be provided to the purchaser.
